How Internet Marketers Do Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2014 By John E Lincoln

Oh Valentine’s Day, it’s the time to celebrate with that special someone in your life. While flowers and chocolates are still common go-to gifts, Internet users continue to get more and more creative online when it comes to this showy holiday. Valentine’s Day now not only exists as a day for romance and couples, but also as a time for Internet Marketers to spread their creative wings, attract new visitors to their websites and have a little fun on the way. The following are some of the trends we are seeing for the day of love.

Internet Marketers Valentine's Day

Social Media and Mobile Contests

Social media contests are always prevalent around holidays. However, as social media trends develop and new social networks become popular, contests are always changing. This Valentine’s Day, we are seeing the usual giveaways and Sweepstakes companies often offer, such as giving away tickets to events or bouquets of roses. However, some companies are taking it a step further and encouraging users to get a little more creative for their V-day contests. Mashable, for example, ran a Valentine’s Day themed Snapchat Challenge, which encouraged users to send a 10 second snap to them and have a chance to be featured on the site.

Valentine’s Day Cards

Believe it or not, it seems that Valentine’s Day eCards are making a comeback! Companies like Someecards are continuing to gain more and more popularity with witty Valentine’s Cards. But what’s their secret? While other companies offer holiday eCards, none seem to be shared as often as those from Someecards.

Part of what makes this company so popular is the hilarity and ridiculousness behind all of the cards, causing users to share them and send to friends on social media platforms. This reminds us of the need to create dynamic, shareable content, and Someecards is dominating in this area. They also encourage users to create their own Valentine’s Day cards, allowing the company to always have fresh content coming in.

Interactive Generators and Apps

Other trends we see around the holidays are interactive sites and apps. This Valentine’s Day, companies are drawing in new visitors by releasing “create your own Valentine’s Day card” generators or apps. For example, NestedApps Limited released a Valentine’s Day Card Maker. While these may not be the most handmade or sentimental options for gifts, businesses can definitely expect to see a spike on V-day.

Google Doodle

Of course it wouldn’t be a holiday without a Google doodle! This Valentine’s Day, each sweetheart plays a different love story. Check out the image below or visit Google to see the whole thing.
