Here are some new strategies and test we have seen in conversion rate optimization. I believe this will be the most innovative year in conversion rate optimization yet. We haven’t even started scratching the surface of what we can do yet.

Buttons that pulse

People are showing good results with buttons that vibrate, glow, get bigger and smaller or change colors. This attracts more attention to them than ever.

Only one thing on the page

Eliminate everything from the page except the call to action and a line of text. This puts 100% focus on the goal.

Everything goes dark

Make everything on the page go dark, except what you want the user to see. Highlight the area and then fade back to normal.

Pop ups that cover the whole page

We are seeing the pop ups that cover the entire page and make the close box so tiny the user can barely find it are very effective. In many cases there will not even be a close button, but instead, a down button.

Pages all one color

We are seeing lots of tests where the page is entirely one color, except the call to action.

Music in the background

Autoplay music is making a comeback. Many sites starting using it to enhance the buying experience over the holidays or announce deals, just like a supermarket or department store.
