New YouTube Feature: 3-Second Intro Video for Content Creators

May 2, 2014 By John E Lincoln

new youtube featureYouTube has rolled out a new feature for content creators. A 3-Second intro video can now be added to the beginning of videos on their channel. While this is just a minor addition, it can surely prove to turn out huge results.

When you are a content creator and are on a roll pushing out new stuff for your audience it is a great idea to brand yourself right? A quick introduction to each of your videos can do justice in this sense. For example, we all have a favorite television show and whether we know it or not, we are extremely familiar with the shows introduction. You can be in another room and once you hear the familiar sound of the shows introduction you know exactly what is on. The same goes for your YouTube channel as a content creator. Allow your customers to become familiar with your work with the aid of this new 3-Second intro feature. Make it something catchy, but be careful not to turn it into an advertisement.

The main requests of YouTube for this new feature is that this short intro video does not serve as an ad, sponsorship, or product placement. This makes sense considering most videos on YouTube have an advertisement where you can skip after five seconds to view your content.

Setting up this new feature on your channel is quite simple. Upload the intro video as an unlisted video and then select “add a channel branding intro” under the InVideo Programming page of your channel. You can have the intro start every video on your channel or just ones you have uploaded after a certain date. No need to worry about it too much right away, you can always log back into your channel and adjust the intro to videos of your choice.

Ultimately put, the whole point of this new feature is to build a brand, and a consistent one at that. Familiarity is key to branding and this quick intro video aims to do so. After all, we like things we are familiar with. Not something we have never heard of or seen before. What type of impact do you think this new YouTube feature will have? Do you think brand expansion can be achieved for content creators with this new intro video option?
