Why Are You Getting Less Facebook Views?

April 17, 2014 By Ignite Visibility

Why Are You Getting Less Facebook Engagement?

Why Are You Getting Less Facebook Engagement?

In December, Facebook altered its algorithm to hone in on “high quality content,” which means more news, events and engaging content.

This impact has been huge on all pages and Facebook views have dropped significantly. Even business pages with thousands of connections have dropped to double digit views.

According to Mashable, Facebook hopes to be a competitor to Twitter when it comes to breaking news and the social conversations that expands from it.

What You’ll See Less Of

Meme Photos – Remember those cat photos or Someecards? Facebook deems those as low quality content. While you’ll still see a few memes here and there, brands should stray away from these items as they provide less engagement.

Spammy Links– These are misleading links. Facebook is seeking to eliminate content that leads users to unrelated links.

Like-Baits – Photos that solicit for Likes and Shares, Facebook considers this a form of spam that is trying to beat the system.

How Can You Get More Facebook Post Views?

Promoted Post – Although you may have to bite the bullet with this option, promoted posts is a great tool if you want to highlight an event, promotion or something potentially viral. You can make the post more visible among your connections or target the post to outside connections with an interest in certain subject matters

High Quality Content – Spend time developing content that is awesome, engaging and meaningful. It could be a team photo wishing everyone a Happy Holiday, a photo of a happy customer with their new purchase, or some fun news from the company. Other factors can help such as snappy verbiage, captivating photos or adding a really human element. Give your connection some real ways to be part of the conversation about this brand you both love. Here are some other criteria you can follow:

  • Is this timely and relevant content?
  • Is this content from a source you would trust?
  • Would you share it with friends or recommend it to others?
  • Is the content genuinely interesting to you or is it trying to game News Feed distribution? (e.g., asking for people to like the content)

Get Notifications– Facebook offers a notification option on Pages where individuals can get notification on the page’s updates. However, this may be cumbersome and may be a difficult task to solicit as users can be fickle.

Post Often– It was once considered a big no-no to post more than once a day, but because page engagement is so low these days it can’t hurt to post often and see how it does.

What methods have you tried to improve your page’s engagement?
