YouTube Launches 4 New Studio Features that Boost Viewer Experience

May 19, 2020 By John E Lincoln

Here’s some good news if you’re into video marketing: YouTube announced the release of four new features that will help you promote your brand online.

You can use some of the new enhancements right away. Others will roll out over the next few weeks.

Let’s take an in-depth look at each of the YouTube studio features in detail.

YouTube Studio Features

See When Your Target Audiences are Online

How would you like to know when your audience is online?

Of course, you’d like to know that. It will help you determine when to run ads and broadcast live stream videos.

That’s why you’ll find it especially welcome that YouTube is rolling out analytics data that tells you when people in your target market are hanging out on the platform.

YouTube will share that data in a graph. On the x-axis, you’ll see the days of the week. On the y-axis, you’ll see times of the day.

The darker colors at the intersections of days and times indicate when your audience members are on YouTube. Lighter colors indicate little to no activity from people in your target market.

Use that data to look for trends over time. If you find that there’s a particular day/hour slot that’s hot, schedule your videos for publication an hour or two before that time.

People who’ve subscribed to your channel should see your videos as they’re scrolling through subscriptions.

YouTube Studio Feature: Monitor Inappropriate Comments

In the past, YouTube gave you the option to hold inappropriate comments for review. Now that option is set to true by default.

YouTube studio feature, monitor comments

Why? So you can manage conversations on your channel more easily.

After all, you don’t want someone with negative vibes sucking away all the goodwill you’re trying to spread with a video.

You’ll see a message in YouTube Studio when the setting is activated for your channel. You can always turn it off if you’d rather monitor comments manually.

When the setting to hold inappropriate comments first launched, channels that used it reported a 75% drop in flagged comments.

This new feature, by the way, isn’t available yet. Look for it in the next few weeks.

Easily Schedule Community Posts on Desktop

YouTube will also allow you to schedule community posts when you’re using the desktop web app.

It’s unclear as to when YouTube will roll out this feature on its mobile app.

Also, YouTube says that it created the feature in response to requests from the creator community. The company wants you to know that it listens to your suggestions.

YouTube Studio Feature: Create Video Chapters for Seamless Viewing Experience

Here’s another one that’s coming in a few weeks. But it’s a welcome move.

Video chapters allow you to break down your video into different chapters. Your viewers can jump right to the chapter they want to watch.

If you’d like to take advantage of the feature, you’ll need to add timestamps to your videos. The first timestamp must start at 0:00.

YouTube studio feature, create video chapters

Also, you’ll need at least three chapters. Each chapter must last at least 10 seconds.

It looks like the chapters are time-stamped instead of numbered. In other words, instead of Chapter 1, you’ll see “Chapter” 0:00.

By the way, if you’d like to use timestamps in your video but want to opt-out of using chapters, just make the first timestamp anything other than 0:00.

Wrapping It Up

There you have it. A few more great ways you can use the YouTube platform to reach your target audience and enhance the user experience.

Take a look at the list above. Determine which of the new features you think is best suited to your business model.

Then, make it a point to start using them in your video marketing.
