All the Different Types of Blog Posts You Can Do

April 8, 2015 By John E Lincoln

Content marketing is a huge avenue with proven results, but it’s takes more than creating a basic blog posts to generate results. With 164 million blogs and most receiving less than 1,000 visitors per month, it takes a variety of great posts to drive traffic. Standard posts get boring very quickly, causing your readers to slowly stop reading. But, with a variety of blog posts, you’ll have fresh exciting content that’s appealing and provides resources to your readers to satisfy their cravings.

All the Different Types
of Blog Posts You Can Do

The How-To Post

In today’s world, internet users are always looking for more ways to be savvy, which is why how-to, do-it-yourself, and tutorial blogs are a hit. People want to know how to do things on their own, causing them to head to the internet to find creditable information. Whether their changing their oil, revamping their website, or building an outdoor patio, internet users want step-by-step instructions to get the job done.

The Video Post

Video blogs are a hot idea, especially when posted on YouTube because you’ll have access to over a billion people watching videos on the second-largest search engine each month. Embed the videos into your blog posts and then transcribe the post to add value. This will generate more views for your blog and increase the amount of time readers spend on your site.

The Infographic Post

Infographics are hot right now, with infographic production increasing by 1 percent every day. Readers love infographics because people are naturally attracted to visuals, and they are easy to scan to find information. Easily shareable infographics have the potential to skyrocket traffic across numerous platforms.

The Breaking News Post

Use breaking news in your favor to drive large amounts of traffic to your blog with trending topics. People are already searching for current news and trending topics, so give your readers what they want. Give your post more authority and boost the post’s buzz by sharing your opinion on the breaking news or trending topic.

The Industry Recap Post

An industry recap doesn’t just offer information about your company, but the industry as a whole. Share information that’s relevant to your industry, such as new partnerships, to keep readers coming back to find quality information that benefits them in more ways than simply what your company offers.

The “I am so Great I Did This” Post

Readers love personal success stories, especially if they offer inspiration. Take your stories of success and turn them into a blog post to give people proof of real results that will drive them to do more. Don’t look at it as bragging. Look at it as an opportunity to inspire others, which they will share with others to further promote your blog views.

The Company News Post

Feature special reports about your company, such as new products, events you’re attending, media recognition, and any additional newsworthy information about your company. You’ll keep your readers well informed about the success and latest news about your company, while promoting your credibility.

The Press Release Further Information Post

Press releases are valuable for distributing important information about your company. Leverage a press release in your favor to not only benefit your blog but to further promote the press release. With each new press release your company launches, feature it on your blog and link to the original release. You’ll promote your credibility in your industry, while increasing the effectiveness of your press release and blog.

The Ultimate Guide Post

When searching the internet, people don’t want to have to look at multiple sites to find all of the information they need. Give internet users exactly what they want by creating in-depth guides. These informational resources add value to your readers and satisfy their cravings while simplifying how they find information.

The Slideshow Post

Create a visual presentation for a specific topic using a slideshow to give readers a fun way to get the information they want. It’s a condensed means to deliver valuable content while you encourage others to share your slideshow on their own blogs. But, keep them short and appealing to attract more views.

The Link Lists Post

Link lists act as resource posts for your readers to curate other content. Link lists provide you with the perfect opportunity to deliver educational content in a proven blog format, but only link to creditable and relevant posts to establish credibility. In return, the authors of the posts are likely to share your post as well. It’s a win/win all the way around.

The Cheat Sheets and Checklist Posts

Cheat sheets, checklists, and to-do blogs are effective because they focus on how to do something successfully without forgetting a vital aspect. Often, readers have an idea, but need a direction to be pointed in. This is where these posts come in handy. You’ll answer their questions and keep them on the right track.

The Review Post

Depending on your niche, review blogs may be appropriate to showcase reviews for certain products and services. We all know how important reviews are in today’s world with well over half of consumers searching for reviews prior to making a purchase. You have the opportunity to generate huge coverage to your blog, especially when you use head-to-head comparisons about various companies or products.

The Controversial Posts

A little bit of controversy is never a bad thing, so harness the power of controversial topics in your favor with a controversial blog post. Blog readers are always told why they should do something or why they should try a new product. Instead of highlighting the benefits of a hot topic, tell them why they shouldn’t jump onboard with the latest trend to spark a discussion and increase blog views.

The Interview Posts

Interview industry influencers and experts to offer a fresh perspective to your audiences from a trusted source. Featuring expert information by a notable name will boost the credibility of your post, while encouraging more shares from your readers and the interviewee’s readers.

The Lists Posts

Blog readers often have the attention span of a goldfish. Readers don’t want to spend forever reading a lengthy blog post to find the information they want, which is why list formats are effective. Although some say lists are overplayed, they are easy to scan and streamline information for readers to share and put into action in the shortest amount of time possible.

The Blog Series Posts

If you have a great idea for a blog post, expand the lifecycle of the post by breaking it into a series. Then, link the posts to one another to improve your SEO, while you build anticipation among your readers. A blog series is a proven means to deliver valuable content as you drive more visitors to your blog.

Offering a variety of blog formats is a great way to appeal to a wider audience and to keep your readers coming back time and time again. Break up the monotony of traditional blog posts with a fun, fresh approach that’s proven to work.
